Weekend Wonderland: 18 Family-Friendly Events in Central Arkansas
If icy weather doesn't keep everyone bundled up at home this weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities for holiday and family fun. Arkansas Children's Hospital hosts its annual Breakfast with Santa, Little Rock Zoo brings back Christmas in the Wild, Historic Arkansas Museum puts on a pioneer holiday at the Annual Christmas Frolic and the Laman Library invites children to help decorate its tree! Plus, Little Rock Family will be celebrating the world premiere of "Because of Winn Dixie the Musical" at The Rep with fun activities and giveaways.

ACCESS Gardens & Ceramics Holiday Sale -- Set your alarm and rise early to get the best of ACCESS ceramics. Lights, Camera, Christmas! at First NLR -- Treat your family to free holiday fun on Christmas Lane, complete with delicious treats, photos with Santa Claus, and carnival, carriage and train rides. The Engine That Thought It Could Pay What You Can Night at Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre -- It's up to Little Engine to save the day, and he'll take you on an exciting journey in this classic tale of determination. The Little Engine learns that hard work pays off, even when faced with adversity. "The Engine That Thought It Could" is written by Alan Keith Smith and is based on the 1906 story by Reverend Charles S. Wing. 7 p.m. Dec. 6 is pay what you can night; regular tickets are $12.50. Santa's Workshop at Firefly Studio -- Drop your little elves off so they may create two secret hand-painted gifts that will be wrapped and ready to pick up in 10 days. Little elves will be supervised and guided through an evening of creative holiday fun by Santa's best helpers. Cost includes dinner of pizza, veggies with ranch dip, cookies and beverages. 13th Annual Poets with Passion Poetry Slam at J.A. Fair High School -- Five students from each Little Rock School District high school will compete in this event. Monetary prizes and trophies will be awarded. Proceeds will benefit the LaPara Nicole Washington Memorial Fund for Literacy, created in honor of the late LaPara Washington, co-founder of the Poets with Passion Poetry Slam and literacy coach at J.A. 22nd Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis at the Clinton Presidential Center and Park -- Each year, hundreds of families, company teams, pets, and individual participants join in the fun, don festive costumes, and help raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation in support of programs and services statewide. There is a one-mile option, as well. Wear your favorite holiday costume, put jingle bells on your shoelaces, and get ready to walk or run. Dogs are welcome to participate. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $30. Breakfast with Santa at ACH Children's Hall CANCELLED -- Children and their families are invited to ACH for a special morning with Santa. This includes a breakfast cooked by local firefighters, a picture with the jolly man himself, crafts and much more. The doors close at 11 a.m. and the event concludes at noon. Christmas in the Wild at Little Rock Zoo -- Take a photo with Santa, enjoy brunch, hot cocoa and treats at the Little Rock Zoo. A special animal visit will be an extra surprise for guests.
