The Rep Announces 2014 SMTI Audition Dates
Is your child interested in taking center stage and putting their acting chops to work? The Arkansas Repertory Theatre recently announced audition dates for its competitive Summer Musical Theatre Intensive (SMTI) this year.
The theater will host auditions for ages 10- 23 on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday March 1, 2014 with audition callbacks held on Sunday, March 2.

Audition appointments will be scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Arkansas Repertory Theatre, 601 Main St., Little Rock. Movement callbacks will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
Candidates will be asked to prepare a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song (an accompanist will be provided). Those auditioning may also be asked to return for an additional movement audition on Sunday, March 2. Applicants will be notified of acceptance within three weeks of auditions.
Tuition for the program is $575. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to those who qualify. Scholarship applications are available at auditions. The session dates are:
- Senior Session (Ages 16-23): July 6-July 19
- Junior Session (ages 13-15): July 20-Aug. 2
The SMTI Selection Session (ages 10 – 12) summer dates for SMTI Select will be announced within the next few weeks. Due to the popularity of last year’s Select session, the SMTI Staff will now hold two two-week sessions. Daily rehearsals will take place in the new theatre training facility across the street from The Rep with new day-time hours. Each session will culminate a separate musical production.
The Summer Musical Theater Intensive, under the direction of Nicole Capri, The Rep’s Resident Director and Director of Education, is an intensive, audition-based theatre training program designed exclusively for motivated young artists who are serious about the arts and musical theatre. For two weeks during the summer, aspiring young artists will have the opportunity to work with the SMTI staff that is comprised of professional directors, choreographers, musicians and designers.
