It's a strange feeling to reach what society calls "middle-aged." I've pondered it a lot this month, not only because I turn 45 in September, but also because it's the month our nation celebrates Grandparent's Day. Being middle-aged means my parents are aging, and I'm less than halfway to my potential time as a grandparent. What will the world be like for my kids when they're parenting? What will my grandchildren face? What kind of grandmother do I want to be?
Grandparents can be like little treasure troves of wisdom just waiting to be opened. They can help us navigate away from pitfalls and energy vampires if we pay attention. Grandparents can also play a key role in grandchildren's lives as confidants, caregivers and playmates. More often than not, children absolutely adore their grandparents. There's something about that relationship that is truly golden.
In our September 2013 issue, Little Rock Family is celebrating those family members who are in their golden years! Check out all of our great grandparent-themed articles, including features on the Dannaway family and the Cobb-Pyron family. You'll also find a special Family Chatter written by Christine Harris, in memory of her husband, Pastor David Harris.
Plus, look for babysitting pointers for grandparents, as well as tips for spending quality time with grands.
Other features this month include how to tell if your child is too sick for school and optimizing iPads for kids with special needs. Don't miss our fantastic Field Trip Guide insert and our Early Childhood Education section. Of course, we've got the best family fun calendar around for you and grandparents to plan some amazing outings in September.
