With Father's Day almost here, it might be time to figure out exactly what to do to celebrate the dad in your life. Lucky for you, there are plenty of things going on this weekend.
Here is a rundown:
- Take your dad to a baseball game -- The Travs are playing Father's Day at Dickey-Stephens Stadium, 400 W. Broadway St., North Little Rock, against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at 6:10 p.m. Sunday (June 16). The team will be wearing special blue jerseys to be auctioned during the game and fathers and kids are invited onto the field to play catch before the game. You can buy tickets at Box Office before the game or purchase them online here.
- Take your pops to a state park -- Several state parks are having special programs on Father's Day. At Little Rock's Pinnacle Mountain State Park, 11901 Pinnacle Valley Rd., there will be a Father's Day Sunset Canoe Float from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Explore the Big Maumelle River with dad as nighttime unfolds. Possible sights and sounds for the night include bats, coyotes, deer, owls, beaver and maybe even an alligator. It's $35 per person and includes use of canoe, paddles and lifejackets. Advance payment is required. Call (501) 868-5806 to register.
- Go golfing -- Many dads would appreciate a nice, relaxing day of golf and this weekend is shaping up to be beautiful! Arkansas has many courses that are available to the public. Click here for the full listing. The First Tee of Central Arkansas is one place that has specials for Father's Day. Get more information here.
- Go fishing -- From noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, Wildwood Park for the Arts, 20919 Denny Rd., Little Rock, is hosting a family fishing derby. Bring a picnic, lawn chairs or a blanket and celebrate Father’s Day with fishing, hiking and lawn games. Get more info here.
- Take him to a live blues show -- Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, seven miles south of Eureka Springs, will host a special outdoor Father's Day blues performance from 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, the last day of its Eureka Springs Blues Weekend. Food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts displays and kids activities will also be offered. Admission for blues performance is just $5 and admission to the refuge is $15. Get more info here.
- Head to a garden party -- Make plans to celebrate dad with a Broadway favorites concert on Sunday at the second series concert by the Muses at Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Rd., Hot Springs, in Anthony Chapel. Father’s Day will sparkle with classic tunes from the musical theatre stage, including songs from “The King & I”, “My Fair Lady”, “Sound of Music”, “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera” and many more. Tickets for the Muses' four-concert series "Four Seasons in Art and Song 2013" are available for $80 or can be purchased individually at $25. Tickets can be reserved by contacting the Muses at (501) 463-4514 or clicking here.
- Enjoy the museum together -- The Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, is a great place for the family, especially the dads. For Father's Day, the interactive museum has free admission for dads from 1 to 5 p.m. with a paid child. What's really cool is that the annual Tinkerfest starts Saturday (June 15), so there will be tons of stuff to do. And be sure to get more information about it here on the blog later this week!
- Take him out for a nice dinner -- Little Rock has some great restaurants for dads, including Cafe Bossa Nova, 2701 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, which is for serious meat eaters. Vieux Carre, 2721 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, is having a special Jazz Brunch on Father's Day Sunday. Sonny Williams Steak Room, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, is a great place to get your steak fix. Although it's not open Sunday, a nice Friday or Saturday dinner could work! Something simple like pizza is always a great option, too.
- Take him on a cruise -- For the laidback dad, consider the Father’s Day Lock & Dam Cruise aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat in downtown North Little Rock. With a deli-style lunch, the cruise leisurely winds down the Arkansas River and is perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Visit DamRiverboat.com for more information about the cruises and reservations.
- Hit the water slides -- Maybe a day of hitting the water slides – or floating the Lazy River – best fits your dad. Whatever floats his boat, take advantage of dads getting in free at Wild River Country when the kids pay. Check out the newly-renovated water park at WildRiverCountry.com.
