As we look toward the summer months, it is clear that there is no shortage of sports for even preschool-aged children to play. Here are six fun organizations that will get your kids on the path to some potential positive and life-affirming experiences that comes from athletic participation:

  • Arkansas’ soccer associations, including the Little Rock Futbol Club and Arkansas Soccer Club, offer teams and leagues for players 5 and under. Go to LittleRockFC.com or ArkansasSoccer.org for information on schdules and signing up.
  • The Arkansas Skatium offers instructional classes in hockey and ice skating. Plus, it's one of the coolest locations for extracurricular activities during the Arkansas summer. Go to ArkansasSkatium.com to learn more.
  • First Tee of Arkansas has a Little Linksters program for golfers as young as 3 on a course that matches fairly evenly with the "grown-up" courses in the area. Visit them online at TheFirstTeeLittleRock.org.
  • Get your kid involved in America's Pasttime with Junior Deputy Baseball, one of the oldest athletic organizations for young people in the state. Go to JuniorDeputy.com for information on how to join a team.
  • And for those fields of play that might ordinarily fall between the cracks – tennis, martial arts, swimming, basketball – contact the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arkansas at ArClubs.org. If they don't have a program that's right for you, they'll be the best people to point you in the direction of someone who does.
