Memorial Day Weekend: 5 Things to Do
A three-day weekend is almost here if you're looking to stick around Little Rock, but are not heading downtown for the annual Riverfest event, there are plenty of other things you can get into that are super fun, but pretty low-key!
Here is a rundown of alternative things you can do:
Big Memorial Day at the Argenta's Farmers Market, 6th and Main Sts., North Little Rock -- Start your Saturday with a nice stroll at the local farmers market, where you will find lots of veggies and meats from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday (May 25) across the street from the Argenta Market. What's great is that it's on the River Rail Trolley route with an abundance of free parking. When you're done shopping, get some breakfast over at Argenta Market and take a jaunt down Main Street to check some of the cool galleries open, shop a little more or even take a break at the Argenta Branch of the Laman Library.
Breakfast with the Grizzlies, Little Rock Zoo, Little Rock -- Bear Awareness Week begins with a delicious breakfast buffet Saturday (May 25) in Cafe Africa at the zoo and a unique keeper chat all about grizzlies. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and admission prices vary. After the breakfast, stick around the zoo and check out more than 700 animals on 33 acres. Get more information about the zoo and special event here.
Sounds of Summer, Promenade at Chenal Shopping Center, Little Rock -- It's officially summertime at the west Little Rock outdoor center. Take a load off at one of its wonderful patios for dining and musical entertainment. Dine at your choice of six award-winning restaurants like A.W. Lin's Asian Cuisine, Bravo! Cucina Italiana, Big Orange Burger, Local Lime, The Tavern Sports Grill, or YaYa's Euro Bistro, each with awesome summertime patio seating. Music begins at or around 6 - 7 p.m. and concludes at or before 10:30 p.m. each evening. After dinner, take in a movie at the Dickinson Chenal 9 IMAX movie theater (see movies and showtimes here), get some ice cream at Maggie Moo's Ice Cream & Treatery or peruse at one of the many awesome shops at the center. See full directory here.
Maddie's Memorial Day Maritime Bash, Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, North Little Rock -- On Sunday (May 26), this will be a great place to watch the Riverfest fireworks (on the deck of the USS Razorback submarine). There will be live music, entertainment and a picnic dinner of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies and soft drinks. The party will get started at about 7 p.m. Stick around and check out the cool exhibits on display at the museum that feature cool historical maritime pieces and other interesting things! Fun events at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, Little Rock -- The entire holiday weekend will feature a few fun events for the family. This includes a spring kayak float and spring canoe float on the Little Maumelle River, in addition to a special wildflower walk at the Arboretum Trailhead, water games at the playground and a color hike, also along the Arboretum Trailhead.
