Pedestrian Safety Campaign Kicks Off
Today (April 8), help kick off of the Pedestrian Safety Campaign at a press conference in downtown Little Rock.
Starting at 11 a.m. at the very important corner of 3rd and Louisiana, join the likes of Mayor Mark Stodola; Sharon Priest, executive director of Downtown Little Rock Partnership (DLRP); John Bacon, CEO of eStem; Stan Dimitrov, chair of the DLRP Pedestrian Safety Committee; and Jeremy Lewno, Little Rock bike pedestrian coordinator, as they address pedestrian safety and what is being done to make it a safer place to walk and drive.
Downtown is now home to 1,462 eStem students in the elementary, middle and high schools adjacent to this intersection.
These students, plus administrators, teachers, parents and volunteers emphasize that the number of pedestrians downtown is on the rise. Add that to traditional traffic patterns designed to get cars, trucks and buses in and out of downtown quickly, and you have a recipe for potential problems, putting everyone on alert -- drivers and pedestrians alike.
This press conference and three others throughout the month, sponsored by the new DLRP Pedestrian Safety Committee in cooperation with the City of Little Rock, will feature a total of four locations downtown of special importance to pedestrians and drivers.
A DLRP Safety subcommittee of the Main Street Revitalization Committee monitoring Main Street growth and related safety issues was asked to address the larger downtown community safety issues as well.
