St. Patrick's Day, an early Easter celebration, two productions of classic story tales and spring break programs happening all over are part of our list of must-do activities this month.

1. Spring Break traveling won’t be your family’s only adventure this month. On March 6, Arkansas Repertory Theatre premieres a never-before-seen production of “Treasure Island, A New Musical,” based on the famous tale by Robert Louis Stevenson. Your young buccaneers won’t want to miss sword-fighting and sailing on the open seas with young Jim Hawkins and the peg-legged Long John Silver.

The classic story of murderous pirates and a coveted treasure map is given fresh life with a musical score from Corinne Aquilina, original set design by Stanley A. Meyer (the master behind the set for “Disney’s Beauty & The Beast” on Broadway) and couture costumes by The Rep’s own Rafael Castanera, whose design credits include “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “The Wiz.”

The production opens with Pay What You Can Night on March 6 and continues through March 31. For complete schedule and more info: TheRep.org.

2.  Your next trip? A journey to the royal kingdom in the Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre’s “The Princess and the Pea.” The original play is adapted from the Hans Christian Andersen classic, in which a beautiful girl seeks shelter at the home of a handsome prince. His mother, the Queen, sets out to see if the disheveled gal is a true princess fit for her royal son.

Find out with your family when the show plays March 8-24; visit the week of March 19-22 for special Spring Break matinee performances. For complete schedule and more info: www.ArkArts.com.

3.  Celebrate Easter early and hop on over to the Clinton Center’s 8th Annual Easter Family Festival and Egg Hunt. From 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on March 23, tykes will scour the lawn of the Presidential Park for tens of thousands of hidden, eco-friendly eggs. See our Family Fun calendar for details and for information on more Easter celebrations.

4. Take advantage of Spring Break programs around town and spend your vacation close to home. Check out Arkansas Skatium’s special hockey classes, Wildwood’s Junior Naturalist Camp, The Wonder Place’s Playcation week and Unity Martial Arts’ pirate-themed program.

5.  March is the perfect month to hit the road for a family-friendly weekend trip to Hot Springs. Head south for Mid-America Science Museum’s annual Keep on Truckin’ event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on March 16, where little ones can explore fire trucks, police cars and construction equipment. Then, stop by and smell the flowers at Garvan Woodland Gardens, where you’ll find thousands of vibrant blooms during the Tulip Extravaganza. Round out the weekend by donning your greenest outfit and heading downtown for The First Ever Tenth Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17.
