Families can celebrate reading Saturday (Sept. 22) with Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe at Central Arkansas Library System's Main Library.

Mrs. Beebe, who is heavily involved with literacy initiatives in the state, will be reading stories to young library patrons. The event, hosted by CALS and Reading is Fundamental (RIF), will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Youth Services Department. Each child who attends the celebration will take home three free books plus lots of fun family activities.

The event is free. Registration is required. Contact Lisa Donovan at (501) 918-3053 or LDonovan@CALS.org to register.

The governor will also speak on the subject of child literacy this week. Mr. Beebe serves as the keynote speaker at the Governor's Mansion today (Sept. 19) at a reception for Save the Children's Board of Trustees.

Since 2003, Save the Children has been establishing early childhood development, Head Start and in-school literacy programs for Arkansas children.
