Writing this letter has been like a scene from the old Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day. The scene goes something like this. In the wee hours of the morning, I nestle into my robe and comfy home office chair, sipping my hot candy in a cup (a.k.a. my yummy addiction -- hazelnut coffee).

Putting pen to paper, I ... I ... don't know where to start! This scene played out every morning for four days. There’s just so much I want to share with you. There are so many resources I want to help you access through Little Rock Family, and so much to do to help families of central Arkansas feel healthier, happier, and better equipped to parent!

Little Rock Family has been an impeccable award-winning publication for nearly 20 years. And for six of those years, Jennifer Pyron did a phenomenal job at the helm. I am truly grateful that she has not gone far. Now at Little Rock Soiree, she is just a hop, skip and a jump down the APBG office hallway. I know I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but it feels more like two sisters sharing a closet. I pledge to stay the course of Little Rock Family excellence while sprinkling in some new ideas to make our journey together an exciting adventure.

Before becoming editor of Little Rock Family, I worked for Centers for Youth and Families for 11 years as a parent educator, childcare provider trainer and public relations director. I am a wife, mother, taxi driver, laundry goddess, gardener, housekeeper, maintenance man, cheerleader, medic, executive assistant, superhero, plumber, professional organizer, accountant, decorator, tutor, stand-up comedian, sounding board, party planner, referee, stylist, and chief cook and bottle washer! I am like you. And I am here for you!

Every issue will reflect the wide array of topics that impact the families of today. This month’s issue is a perfect example. You’ll find ideas about how to make tough choices, like whether or not your kids should be home alone, what after-school activities to choose for your child, and how to get out of a life rut! Every moment you invest in your child and family is time well spent, and reading Little Rock Family will be an invaluable part of your parenting portfolio.

Best wishes to you from me,

Heather Bennett, Editor
