The Fletcher family: Lyrick, Derrick and Key.

We are excited to introduce the Fletcher family and their virtual fitness business, Keyfit Life. Their programs for kids and adults are truly a family effort—founder, Key, her husband, Derrick, and their daughter, 9-year-old Lyrick, all help teach classes and brainstorm new ideas for future courses.

We wanted to learn more about their family, Keyfit Life’s mission and the Keyfit Life Kids holiday promo coming up (spoiler: it’s a good one, don’t miss out).

Can you tell us a little bit about your family?

We are transplants from Louisiana who came to Arkansas by way of Hurricane Katrina. We have family in Blytheville, so Little Rock was a natural fit because it provides us close proximity to our Arkansas family and our Louisiana family.

We are a pretty active family. Health and movement are very important to us, so we enjoy activities that keep us going. My daughter loves soccer and swimming, and my husband and I both enjoy climbing Pinnacle Mountain and other activities around the city.

Our business, Keyfit Life, is a family affair and we all play a part. Both my husband and I teach classes and come up with sessions and other ideas for the business. We also allow our 9-year-old daughter, Lyrick, to give input on our ideas. She played a huge role in helping us develop the Keyfit Life Kids program and served as a co-instructor during our summer classes. We think it’s very important for her to see the importance of health and wellness now. She also helps to bring the energy that only a 9-year-old can!

When we want something more relaxed, movies are our favorite family activity. We used to try to visit the theater at least once a month but since COVID we’ve made it a tradition at home.

What inspired you to create Keyfit Life?

Like so many people, I had the desire to workout, but my schedule was so busy that going to the gym seemed like one more chore on my to-do list. With my full-time job at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, my husband traveling due to work and military and a young child who had activities of her own, it seemed impossible to use my gym membership.

I knew that I couldn’t be the only one struggling to balance health, fitness and real life. My husband and I previously ran outdoor bootcamps with friends, so I reached out to a few of them to see if they would be interested in the same concept, but doing it virtually. The rest, as they say, is history.

That was almost two years ago. People were really receptive to it, and we took off from there. What started as a test group of only 10 people has now grown into a community of 200 adults and children from across the country.

What’s your top goal with Keyfit Life?

Our desire is to give people easy access to quality health and fitness experiences virtually. Keyfit Life is on a mission to not just change individuals, but to create generational health and fitness for families.

Can you tell us about Keyfit Life Kids After-School Club?

The after-school club really came from the need to keep my daughter moving and active during COVID. Like all kids, she was doing virtual AMI instruction this past spring. Dance and soccer had stopped for her, and she was missing her friends.

We decided to create virtual movement sessions for children, and it was a hit. Families logged on with us all the way through the summer into July. Now that school is back in session, COVID restrictions and concerns have limited after-school activities, so we recognized that physical activity for kids was still a need, especially as we transition to the colder months.

We are offering families a safe, virtual alternative for children to get their energy out and get their needed exercise with fun movement sessions. There are themed classes and various models for children pre-k through the sixth grade. And the best part is they get to do it with other children, so there is still social engagement virtually which adds to the fun.

You mentioned a holiday special, can we get the details on that?

Keyfit Life Kids is offering free classes during the holiday season.

We are spreading a little holiday cheer with virtual holiday movement and activity sessions. With help from the Central Arkansas Library System, First Security Bank and C Klear Vision Optique, we are able to present Happy Healthy Holidays with Keyfit Life Kids for free.

From Nov. 16- Dec. 17 from 5-6 p.m. (excluding Thanksgiving week, Nov. 23-26) we are inviting families to join us as we jump, kick, dance and have an after-school adventure! These classes are designed specifically with children in mind and can be done anywhere with live streaming sessions.

What’s the best way for Little Rock families to get started?
