Social distancing isn’t hindering the AAC’s commitment to its beloved community. A creative team of students and instructors at the center’s Museum School is bringing art-making and learning opportunities to the comfort and safety of homes through online classes.

Bringing Art to You

Virtual classes are held via Zoom’s video-conferencing platform and include ceramics, painting, drawing, color theory and sculpture along with theatre classes for youth and adults. For classes that require specific supplies, the Museum School partnered with local supplier Art Outfitters to create supply kits for curbside pickup at the store’s downtown Little Rock location. Executive Director Victoria Ramirez states, “amid uncertainty, we will always find a way to make space for art and creativity.”

Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition

Further proving exactly that, the annual Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition will launch in digital format in conjunction with the virtual Young Arkansas Artists awards ceremony. This year, 478 entries were made on behalf of K-12 students around the state. Panelists selected 65 works for the exhibition, which will be part of the center’s new digital engagement initiative, “Arkansas Arts Center Amplified.” Through this initiative, the center is committed to bringing engaging art experiences where people are now spending much of their time — online. Ramirez notes, “Young Arkansas Artists offers us an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of young artists, and the remarkable talent, creativity and perspective of these students is an absolute joy to experience.” The digital exhibition will be open for online viewing beginning May 9.
