Happy October! We're starting the month off with lots of food, festivals, and 5Ks.
Friday
Storytime with The Little Mermaid at Whole Foods: Flip your fins (or human legs!) with The Little Mermaid as she tells her enchanting story! Sing along to her favorite song, get a lesson in princess etiquette and take photos! Whole Foods Market will also provide a snack and craft. The fun starts at 10 a.m. Click here for more information. Heroes Against Hunger 5K at Murray Park: This family-friendly 5K and kids race benefits the Arkansas Foodbank's Food for Kids program, with over $31,000 donated over the past five years. Runners, walkers and spectators are all welcome! There will be prizes for best adult and child superhero costumes as well as a book-walk for kids. Participants 6 months and older can get a free flu shots courtesy of the Arkansas Department of Health. The fun starts at 8 a.m. Click here for more info.
Angel One 5K/10K at Two Rivers Park: The Angel One 5K/10K is organized by the Angel One crew to help families of children transported to ACH. Funds raised pay for gas cards for families who drive long distances to the hospital. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome to participate in this fun run event. 5th Annual Arkansas Honey Festival at Bemis Honey Bee Farm & Supplies: The Arkansas Honey Festival is an educational event that celebrates honey and the bees that make it. From 9 a.m.-4 p.m., explore workshops, honey tasting, honey contests, honey smoothies, honey extracting and more! Peruse the food trucks and visit a kids area will filled with bounce houses, face painting and other activities. Visit the Facebook page for more info. FREE!
High Cotton on the Bayou Festival at Scott Plantation Settlement: Step back into history and enjoy a wonderful day full of turn-of-the-century family-style fun! Tour authentic farm and rural buildings and watch demonstrations of blacksmithing, needlework, Dutch oven cooking and more. Kids can try special crafts and play heritage games like hopscotch, sack races and walking on stilts. The sweet shop will be open as well! Admission is $3 and free for kids 6 and under. Great Arkansas Goat Festival at the Perryville City Park: This event is a little outside our typcial Little Rock area, but it's worth the drive for a one-of-a-kind, Arkansas experience. The whole family can enjoy a goat parade, goat costume contest, goat races, America's Goat Talent Show, live music and food vendors. The fun goes from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and more details and a schedule of events are available on the website. FREE!
It's Fall, Y'all Food Truck Festival at the Rail Yard: Enjoy live music all day long at the Rail Yard! From 11 a.m.-10 p.m., get your fill from Count Porkula, A Little Crêpesy, Food From the Heart, Cheesecake on Point and Nach’Yo Nachos. There is a $3 cover charge. Click here for more info.
World Cheese Dip Championshp at the Clinton Center: Make your taste buds heard and vote to help crown the World Cheese Dip Champions! Try all the cheese dips your heart desires at the ninth annual World Cheese Dip Championship from noon-4 p.m. All proceeds benefit Harmony Health Clinic. Broadway Evening with Heather Headley at the Robinson Center: Grammy and Tony Award winning artist Heather Headley will perform with the ASO for one night only. The program includes songs from "The Lion King" (she played the original Nala on Broadway), Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" and many other Broadway favorites.
