4 Ways to Beat Summer Boredom and Protect Air Quality
Already searching for activities to keep your kids entertained, engaged and, more importantly, away from those ever-present screens this summer?
From now through September, families can participate in Ozone Action Days, Metroplan’s annual public awareness campaign. Need a few suggestions to get started? Here are four ways to beat summer boredom and protect air quality in our community:
1. Hop on the Trolley Downtown
Take advantage of Rock Region Metro's free trolley rides to visit multiple destinations on a 3.4-mile route—from the Museum of Discovery to the Clinton Presidential Center—all from a comfortable, air-conditioned seat. It’s less stressful than looking for a parking spot, and it helps decrease carbon and gases.

2. Walk to Dinner in the Heights
Before temperatures skyrocket, help your kids burn off some pre-bedtime energy by walking as a family to one of your favorite dinner spots in the Heights. The stroll will improve everyone’s mental and physical health, and it’ll reduce carbon dioxide in the environment.
3. Carpool to Two Rivers Park
When it comes to playdates, our motto is the more, the merrier. Carpool with friends to one of Little Rock’s favorite recreation spots, Two Rivers Park, for a picnic, walk or bike ride. Have fun while enjoying the view and minimizing your carbon footprint.
4. Bike to the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market
Summertime in Arkansas means fresh produce and flowers. Encourage your children to support local and eat healthy by visiting the Hillcrest Farmers Market on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon. By biking instead of driving, your family can help eliminate emissions and pollution.
Forget endlessly streaming show after show on TV. This summer, encourage your kids to unplug, get outside and enjoy everything central Arkansas has to offer—all while supporting cleaner air. For more information on Ozone Action Days, visit ditchthekeys.com.
