Capes at the ready! The Arkansas Foodbank is looking for superheroes — Hunger Heroes to be exact.

In this new program, nominees from ages 5-18 are challenged to fundraise for the Foodbank in unique ways, with the kids division Hunger Heroes (ages 5-11) each aiming to meet a $500 goal and the junior division nominees (ages 12-18) aiming for $1,000 each.

According to a spokesperson at the Foodbank, 1 in 4 kids in Arkansas are at risk for going hungry. The goal of the Hunger Heroes progam is to fight childhood hunger while giving kids and teens the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the Foodbank's Food for Kids program, which helps fund the Backpack Program, school pantries and more.

The kids division goal of $500 equates to 2,500 meals while the junior division goal of $1,000 equates to 5,000 meals. Each Hunger Hero will have their own personal fundraising page and will be able to track their progress.

"We encourage each nominee to find unique ways to raise funds," said Emily Gassman, donor engagement director. "Hold a bake sale, collect change at your school, get family and community members involved, get creative!"

The overall fundraising goal for the Hunger Heroes program is $25,000, which equals 125,000 meals for Arkansas children.

Nominations are open through Jan. 11, 2019. Nominees will attend a kickoff party at the Arkansas Foodbank on Jan. 17, fundraising will conclude on Feb. 22 and a closing celebration will take place Feb. 28, where the winning fundraiser in each division will take home a prize pack.
