This weekend is a slower one in central Arkansas, but just because there aren't many events going on doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of places to have fun. In addition to these five activities, here are a few places to visit any time this weekend!

If you want to get out of town, check out five fun destinations in Conway (including an awesome kids' playspace connected to a coffee shop) and five more in Benton & Bryant (including a practically new indoor waterpark)!

Friday

Home School Friday at Pinnacle Mountain State Park: Join a park interpreter at the visitor center for a home school class geared toward children third grade and higher. Pre-registration is required. Call (501) 868-5806 to register and for details about this week's class theme. The class is free and goes from 1-2:30 p.m. Click here for more information.

Saturday

5K Run Against Domestic & Teen Dating Violence at Burns Park Girls Softball Complex: This event is part of a national effort to deter teen dating violence as February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The purpose is to raise awareness and encourage local communities to prevent this form of abuse among young people. Money raised will go to support Women & Children First. The event goes from 9 a.m.-noon and registration is $25 for ages 17 and under, $30 for college students and $40 for non-student adults. Visit the website for more details.

Dads Reading Event at Park Plaza Mall: As part of the Statewide Fatherhood Initiative, the HSSCO and AETN invite dads and their children to participate in a fun, casual reading event! Each child who hears a story from their dad receives a book and a bear (while supplies last). Research shows that fathers have the capacity for care-giving, and children benefit directly from dads' parenting contributions. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the middle level, near Dillard's Men's Department (east side of the mall). FREE!

Sunday

Princess Tea Party at The Castle on Stagecoach: Each child will take a photo with either The Snow Queen, The Ice Princess or The Ice Cutting Man and receive a tiara and wand before enjoying a three-course tea. While you enjoy the tea, a group of princesses will sing, dance and entertain all the guests while mingling at each of the tables. Parties take place at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 for adults and $50 for children. Call (501) 960-0658 to make  a reservation and visit the website for more information.

Friday-Sunday

Ideal House Art Exhibit at Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library: Visit the art exhibit in the Children's Library Gallery Space, now hosting artwork made by students from the Republic of Georgia. In this exhibit you will see works of art from youth ages 6-22 years old. Youth in Georgia were invited to submit works of art that reflect their impressions and reflections on two themes: a Georgian fairy tale house (up to 14 years old) and a house of the future or an ecological house (14 years and older). Open all day. Click here for more details. FREE!
