Replicas of Columbus' Ships Dock in Little Rock for Tours
"In fourteen hundred ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue. He had three ships and left from Spain; He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain."
And now two of those boats are docking in Little Rock for nearly two weeks! The classic elementary school poem is coming to life with replicas of the Pinta and Niña stopping at Julius Breckling Riverfront Park, Ottehheimer Plaza from Oct. 27-Nov. 8
The general public is invited to visit the ships for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for students ages 5-16 and children 4 and under are free. The ships are open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
The Niña replica was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools. The original Pinta was the first ship to sight land in the New World.
Both ships tour together as a sailing museum to educate the public and school children on the caravel, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers.
Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30 minute guided tour with a crew member should call (787) 672-2152 or email columfnd1492@gmail.com. Tours require a minimum of 15 participants and cost $5 per person. For more information, visit the Pinta and Niña's website.
