School is right around the corner and we have some fun and free events to fill your last weekend of summer. Celebrate with back-to-school bashes at Christ Lutheran and Sherman Park, learn about duck banding or encourage your child to participate in a kids triathlon in Conway. Don’t forget about FREE admission to the Clinton Center in honor of President Clinton’s 70th birthday or foodie festivals around central Arkansas to check out as well. Grand Opening and Back to School Bash at Christ Lutheran School: All families are invited, although the event is geared toward parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Jewelry with a Purpose — Duck Banding: Wood ducks are one of North America’s most colorful game birds. The best tools that biologists have to estimate survival and harvest of wood ducks hang from the ducks’ legs. Duck bands are “jewelry” with a purpose. Discover this purpose and the history behind duck banding and learn about wood ducks in Arkansas. Make and take home your bird band bracelet! Back to School Bash at Sherman Park: Back to school bash benefiting 7th Street and Glenview Elementary School. Event is at 624 Beech Street in North Little Rock. There is a bounce house, face painting, free haircuts, DJ, obstacle course and free food for the kids. Adults must bring a backpack and school supplies in order to eat. 19th Annual First Security Conway Kids' Triathlon at Hendrix College: The Conway Running Club invites children ages 6-15 to swim, bike and run in a triathlon especially for youth athletes. The course is broken down for two age groups, and awards are given for 1st-5th place winners for each division. Kids can also participate in a post-race party with door prizes, bouncy castles, snow cones and more. $20; Pre-registration is required.
