Grab a Rod and Take the Kids to the Lake for Fishing's Future's National Youth Fishing Contest
Want a chance to win cool prizes just by catching a fish and writing a little bit about your experience? We've got just the contest for you.
Fishing’s Future is a nonprofit organization with 63 chapters in more than 17 states. Its primary mission is getting kids and adults outdoors, together. This fun contest was created to get kids to write while school is out over the summer.
The requirements are simple: all a young angler has to do is catch a fish, photograph it, release it, write a 150-200 word reflection about his or her angling experience, then submit the photo and reflection via the Fishing’s Future website before the contest ends on Aug. 6.
Maddox Motes, 9, is from Sherwood. He is pictured with a bass he caught from Lake Conway on May 29. He was one of the four weekly winners in the competition earlier this year.
The contest is not species-specific and it is free for youth ages 16 and under. Each week four random winners will be drawn to receive a rod and reel plus tackle prize package valued at $100. A grand prize winner will receive a week-long vacation at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resort on South Padre Island, Texas. The Second Place winner will receive a six-person all weather tent, four rod & reel combos, a tackle box full of tackle and a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card. Third place winner will receive a Tenkara IWANA Rod (with case), a Tenkara Kit, Tenkara Hat, and a DVD: Discovering Tenkara.
So if you needed a reason to get out and fish, here's yours. Way to go, Maddox!
