The weekend countdown is on! Some of our favorite seasonal activities return this weekend, including Arkansas Travelers baseball and the opening of Magic Springs Theme Park. Family Fun Saturday: The Kinsey Edition at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center: Families can experience art in the new exhibit, African American Treasures from the Kinsey Collection, which includes authentic and rare art, original artifacts, books, documents and more that tell a story about the black experience in America. At the special exhibit opening, kids can play games, eat great food, attend a book signing, enjoy museum tours, and listen to music spun by a DJ. At 1 p.m., MTCC will host a premeire screening of AETN's new Ken Burns documentary, "Jackie Robinson," which will be followed by a panel discussion. At 3 p.m., the Kinseys will present "What you Didn't Learn in High School." Bernard Kinsey debunks the more than 400-year-old "myth of absence" in American history, drawing from the extensive collection of artistic and historical treasures amassed in The Kinsey Collection. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 9. Imaginate Exhibit Opening at Museum of Discovery: Imaginate aims to inspire the innovator in your youngster. Explore the skills and attitudes that can help foster innovation and enhance creativity in this interactive exhibit, which includes a sound lab, a paper airplane-making station, a materials playground and more. Imaginate identifies four guiding themes everyone can use as pathways to innovation: Dream Big; Expect the Unexpected; Collaborate or Compete; and Try, Try and Try Again. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 9. Magic Springs Theme Park Opening Weekends in Hot Springs: The popular Hot Springs theme park opens for the season—and at a special price! Theme park rides include thrillers X-Coaster and the Gauntlet and family-friendly favorites Big Bad John and the Old No. 2 Logging Company Log Flume. Little ones have plenty of fun rides, too. Arkansas Travelers Season Opening at Dickey-Stephens Park: Get ready to take your family out to the ball game! The Arkansas Travelers are playing their first home games of the season against the Midland Rockhounds and the Frisco RoughRiders. Every Sunday home game is “Family Day” where fans can enjoy Sunday morning at church, and bring their church bulletin to the park to receive $10 admission for the entire family, which includes two adults and up to four children ages 14 & under! 7:10 p.m. April 9, 6:10 p.m. April 10. $6-$12, children ages 4-14 $4-5; add $1 per ticket on the day of the game. Rock City Ramble Bicycle Scavenger Hunt at Bobby’s Bike Hike: Join Bobby's Bike Hike and the Little Rock River Market for a bicycle scavenger hunt. Organize your team (2-5 members per team) and search for clues around downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. Compete in one of three divisions: competitive, family, and an all-new Locally Labeled division, which takes participants on an adventure to local breweries, distillery and craft food establishments. Little Readers Rock at Hillary Rodham Clinton Library & Learning Center: Hosted by Junior League of Little Rock and Head Start State Collaboration Office, this action-packed event includes fun for all! Activities include professional storytellers, puppeteers, snacks, music, crafts, make your own book station, greenhouse tours, pet therapy pups, and much more. 6th Annual Heroes For Hope Race and KidsFest at Simon Park in Conway: Heroes for Hope is a 5K & 10K timed race open to runners, walkers, families and corporate teams. Starting and ending at Simon Park in downtown Conway, the races are certified by the USATF. Kids 10 and under (parents can run, too) will enjoy a 1K superhero race. Capes and tights are optional, but they make it more fun! After the races, see the awards ceremony and costume parade on stage. Then enjoy the Children’s Music Festival featuring choirs, dance teams, baton twirlers, gymnasts and cheerleaders from across Faulkner county. 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 9. $40 for 10K; $35 for 5K; $20 for 1K; Kidsfest is free. Super Sunday Free Family Funday at Arkansas Arts Center: Take part in this free art-making experience for the whole family!
