5 Events for Weekend Fun: St. Patrick's Day Parade, Daffodil Festival, Olympics Exhibit & More
April showers have come a tad bit early for central Arkansas! Though the weekend forecast looks gloomy, if you see a break in the clouds, hurry to the St. Patrick's Day Parade or the Wye Mountain Daffodil Festival. But not to worry—if the rain just won't go away, we've picked out some indoor family fun, too!
17th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade: "Rock to North Little Rock" in Downtown Little Rock: Organized by the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas, this parade is a family-friendly event that encourages everyone to wear their green and line the streets. The parade will feature marching bagpipe bands, Irish music and songs, Irish step dancing, Irish wolfhounds, clowns, decorated floats, international cultural groups, antique cars and Saint Patrick. Immediately following the parade, a program featuring local Irish dance performers is held in North Little Rock. 1 p.m. March 12. Info: IrishArkansas.org. FREE!
37th Annual Wye Mountain Daffodil Festival at Wye United Methodist Church: Enjoy the sight of 7 acres of more than 30 varieties of daffodils to view, photograph and walk through. On weekends, enjoy arts & crafts, BBQ, other food concessions and soft drinks. When picking is permitted, $1 per dozen daffodils. Donations accepted and appreciated. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 12-13, 19-20. American Champions: The Quest for Olympic Glory at Clinton Presidential Center: View photos, film and memorabilia featuring Arkansan Clyde Scott, speed skater Bonnie Blair, tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, and other American Olympic athletes. In addition to Summer and Winter Games galleries, the Center will also display a life-sized replica of a the US team’s bobsled. Center visitors can sit in the sled and are encouraged to take, and share, their own photographs. Visitors are also invited to stand on a replica of a three-tiered medal platform, set in front of an image of a filled stadium, and create and capture their own medal ceremony. Super Sunday Free Family Funday at Arkansas Arts Center: Take part in this free art-making experience for the whole family!
