These are a few of our favorite things: "Schoolhouse Rock," Dr. Seuss, dance parties, star-gazing and love stories. And we'll get a chance to experience them all around central Arkansas this weekend!
"Schoolhouse Rock Live!" at Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre: Packing plenty of giggles, gasps and outright laughs, this show makes grammar, science, math, history and citizenship a delight to learn. And while the cartoon may be decades old, this fresh live-theatre adaptation will spark the wide-eyed wonder of new discovery in our youngest generation while inviting smiles of toe-tapping, lip-synching nostalgia from the rest of us. Gettin' Down for Down Syndrome at Woody's Sherwood Forest: Dress up as your favorite Star Wars character and prepare for a galactic good time! This annual dance aims to spread awareness about Down syndrome, distribute resources, build community, educate the public, and raise needed funds. Conway Symphony Orchestra: Romeo and Juliet: Shakespeare and Prokofiev at UCA Reynolds Performance Hall: Concertmaster and virtuoso violinist Linda Hsu solos the Butterfly Lover’s Violin Concerto. Then, in a unique collaboration, the symphony and actors from the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre tell the story of Romeo and Juliet. Star Gazing at Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park: This remote archeological park provides a perfect backdrop for viewing the night sky! A park interpreter guides guests through the basic spring constellations and tells Native American stories. Space is limited; advanced reservations are required. Whether you are a novice star gazer or an astrophysicist, come and relax while appreciating earth's natural night lights. 7-8 p.m. March 5. $4; kids 6-12 are $3; kids under 6 are free.
