This weekend includes a little bit of everything: monster trucks, science, movies and celebratory events for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Rev up the weekend with a trip to see Monster Jam performers ripping and roaring through Verizon Arena. Families can also learn to code at the Mid-America Science Museum or settle in for a free screening of the new Minions movie at Amy Sanders Library in Sherwood. And don't forget to celebrate MLK on Monday's national holiday: Sign your teens up for a day of service honoring the civil rights leader!

Monster Jam at Verizon Arena: Monster Jam stars the biggest performers on four wheels: Monster Jam trucks! The 12-feet-tall, 10,000-pound machines race on a custom-designed track full of obstacles to soar over or smash through. The 2016 touring season brings favorites like Grave Digger, Incinerator, Xtermigator and others to the arena. Plus, families can get the party started before the show at a special Party in the Pits (extra $10). Girls of Code at Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs: Girls and women of all ages are invited to learn programming skills at one of two workshops this weekend. Administered by the museum’s Education Department, the class features a Khan Academy tutorial on HTML and CSS webpage programming. Register online or at the museum on the day of the event; classes are limited to 20 participants per class. 9 a.m. & 3 p.m. Jan. 16. Free with general admission: $10, children ages 3-12 $8. MLK Challenge at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center: Youth ages 12-18 are challenged to take on a day of community work to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participants will travel to various community sites to complete a range of service projects.
