5 Events for Weekend Fun: Cardboard Boat Races, Inflatable 5K and More
It's the moment you've all been waiting for—the weekend! If you need a little adventure, you can bounce your way through a 5K course filled with inflatable obstacles, or build and race a cardboard boat at Greers Ferry Lake. Plus, the Centers for Youth & Families hosts its Family Fun Fest at Big Rock Mini Golf & Fun Park!
Centers for Youth & Families Family Fun Fest at Big Rock Mini Golf & Fun Park: Support the Centers for Youth & Families at this event that promotes the importance of family bonding time. Booths with games and giveaways will be set up (Little Rock Family will be there, too!). Plus, families can enjoy all of the activities that Big Rock offers: Mini Golf, Go Carts, Bumper Boats, Batting Cages, Lazer Frenzy and arcade games. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 25. Third Annual Military Vehicle Show at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History: The museum’s front lawn is invaded by the annual vintage military vehicle show, featuring Jeeps and other vehicles from members of the Arkansas Military Vehicle Preservation Association and the West Tennessee Military Vehicle Collector Club. Local vendors include Bennett's Military Supplies, as well as representatives from the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs. Insane Inflatable 5K at Burns Park: Not a runner? Not a problem. You can bounce your way through half of this race full of inflatable obstacles, including the world's largest and bounciest ball pit, mazes that will tangle you up and much more. To cross the finish line, you'll have to climb the Vertigo inflatable, which is 5 1/2 stories high, then slide down the other side! After the race, you can celebrate at the Midway with inflatable games and activities, music spun by DJ's, food and more. There's no minimum age to participate and kids who are 42 inches or taller can sign up to participate. First wave starts at 8:45 a.m. $75-$100; spectators free. Info: InsaneInflatable5K.com.
Altus Grape Festival at Altus City Park: Stomp some grapes in a competition, have some wine or muscadine juice, and hear great music in the downtown square. There are lots of games for kiddos, too, including a water balloon toss, grape in a spoon relay race, grape-pie eating contest and more. 5-11 p.m. July 24, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. July 25. World Championship Cardboard Boat Races at Dam Site Park in Heber Springs: Can you make a buoyant watercraft with nothing but cardboard, duct tape and ingenuity? Even if you don’t craft your own, you can enjoy watching others’ attempts to successfully float handcrafted boats on Greers Ferry Lake. There will also be a Treasure Dig for kids, watermelon eating contest and volleyball tournament. New this year, kids ages 2-12 can race rubber ducks in an inflatable pool--propelling their duckies with water guns! 7 a.m.-2p.m. July 25. Info: Heber-Springs.com.
