Fresher, healthier foods in our children's schools? Yes, please! This fall, educators, farmers and community members will come together during several free workshops that illuminate the Farm-to-School movement, and help connect schools and local farmers.

The USDA Regional Farm-to-School Workshops will demonstrate the advantages of participating in a Farm-to-School program by teaching participants how to procure and prepare local foods in schools, food safety for farmers and schools, business and production planning for farmers, and more.

The Childhood Obesity Prevention Research Program at Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute hosts the central Arkansas workshop, held at University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension in Little Rock on Nov. 19. The free workshop will host up to 50 participants, and 10 travel scholarships are available to support participant attendance.

The five workshops around the state include:

  • Oct. 15: Hope, Southwest Research and Extension
  • Oct. 29: Monticello, University of Arkansas at Monticello
  • Nov. 5: Jonesboro, Arkansas State University
  • Nov. 12: Harrison, North Arkansas Community College
  • Nov. 19: Little Rock, University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension

The deadline to register is Sept. 15. Workshops are free to attend, and 10 travel scholarships available per workshop.
