Sunday, June 21 is the first official day of summer AND Father's Day! Which means one thing: This weekend is packed with family-friendly events. You'll find several festivals, including a water sports festival on Greers Ferry Lake and Tinkerfest at Mid-America Science Museum. Or, families can attend a summer solstice event to celebrate the first weekend of summer!

Juneteenth at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center: This annual event commemorates the end of slavery in the United States with activities and events that are rooted in history and focused on the future. Today’s block-party style celebration at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center has something for everyone—live music all day long, dance performances, films, living history presentations, health screenings and more. Surf the Bay Water Sport Festival at Fairfield Bay Marina: Head to Greers Ferry Lake for this free festival that celebrates all kinds of water sports! Many activities are completely free, including turns on the kayaks and paddleboards, tubing for kids, and children’s games in the Kid’s Zone. For a fee, visitors can also enjoy water slides and wake surfing, jump houses and a climbing wall. You’ll also find live music all day, a Food Truck alley, and even a minnow race. 8 a.m.-10 p.m. June 20. For info: SomeDayStartsToday.tv.

Third Annual Tinkerfest at Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs: Tinkerfest is a chance to combine and put a creative spin on science, technology and art. The event will include more than 50 Tinkering Stations ranging from the invention of crazybots to floatable wooden sailboats. Pro-Turbine Inc., a local aerospace company, will bring a 600-pound airplane engine for interested parties to take apart and tinker with. There will also be a bike take-apart, scooter re-assembly, and activities for younger kids, such as kite-making, rockets, light-painting, paper circuits and more. There will also be robots, unmanned aerial vehicles (AKA drones), and other technological tinkering opportunities. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 20. Event is free with museum admission; $10, children $8. 18th Annual Youth Fishing Derby & Family Fun Day Event at Dupree Park Lake in Jacksonville: Lots of hungry fish are biting at the annual youth fishing in Jacksonville. Fishing enthusiasts, ages 15 and under, are invited to join in the morning of fun and fishing. After the Fishing Derby, stay for a family event at the park with food and fun. Arkansas Travelers Celebrate Fathers & Military at Dickey Stephens Park: Take your dad to the ballpark to see the Travs take on the Northwest Arkansas Naturals! On Sunday afternoon, the first 1,000 fans in the stadium will receive free baseballs. Free Round of Mini Golf for Father's Day at Big Rock Mini Golf & Fun Park: In honor of Father's Day, dads receive a free round of mini golf when they bring their kids to the fun park. Enchanted Flame: A Summer Solstice Circus Show & Event at Wildwood Park for the Arts: Welcome summer with a full length fire dancing show by ReCreation Studios & Cirque Arts, Arkansas' professional Circus troupe! Gates open at 7 p.m. with local food trucks (Loblolly Creamery, Southern Salt Food Truck, Nate's Hot Dogs), vendors, drinks and music. The show starts at 8:45 p.m. Stay after the show and enjoy a live DJ and dancing by the lake til 11 p.m.! This is an all-ages, family-friendly, outdoor event. Limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend bringing a lawn chair or a blanket to relax on by the lake. 7-11 p.m. June 20. $12, children ages 6-12 $5. Summer Solstice Celebration at Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park: Celebrate the arrival of summer with an array of outdoor activities for the whole family. Try your hand at using primitive style weapons, create and take home native-style crafts and more. At 6 p.m. park staff provides a presentation on the alignment of the mounds with the summer solstice sunset. A special guided sunset tour of the prehistoric mound site will begin at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude with the observation of the sunset over Mound B. 5-8:30 p.m. June 20. $4, kids ages 6-12 are $3, under 6 are free. Go! Mile Run at Clinton Presidential Center: Go! Running's annual Go! Mile run celebrates its fifth year in 2015. The quick race will feature seven heats for everyone in the family. Run in the First Mile, men's and women's races, the Elite Race or Mini-Mile (a half mile for the kiddos 9 years old and younger). Register online by June 18. 7 a.m. June 20. Registration fees: $15 without a T-shirt, $25 with a T-shirt, $5 for Mini-Mile (half-mile race) and free for kid's mini-mile entry with every adult registration. For info: GoRunning.com.

Child Safety Fair at Conway Expo Center: The Conway Police Department presents this family event to bring awareness to safety issues. Law enforcement agencies, fire departments, MEMS, and service agency representatives will be on-hand to visit with guests. Kids and their families will enjoy food (while it lasts), fun activites and pick up safety materials and child identification kits while at the event. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For info, click here. FREE!
