Let's hope the sunshine continues this weekend--because there are lots of outdoor opportunities for family fun, including a fishing derby at Pinnacle Mountain State Park and several family races. Just in case the dark clouds hang over central Arkansas again, we've also included a few, free indoor activities that will get kids building and crafting.

Cheetah Chase 5K Fun Run & 1K Kids Run at Little Rock Zoo: Join all the big cats at this race through War Memorial Park! Families can participate in the 5K together or kids can run all by themselves in the Kid’s 1K. Strollers permitted in both races. All participants get a free zoo admission on race day and a race T-shirt. Participants are encouraged to wear fun, family-friendly, animal-themed attire. Kids Fishing Derby at Pinnacle Mountain State Park: Kids, grab your pole and tackle box and head to the park to show your skills! Take part in how-to-fish clinics and casting contests, sample free snacks and enter to win lots of prizes. Prizes will be given away throughout the event with a special prize for the biggest fish. Bring your own bait and tackle. Contest is for kids 15 and under, although everyone is welcome to fish after 11 a.m. with a fishing license. 8-11 a.m. June 6. Kids Workshop: Learn to Build a Load 'n Go Truck at All Home Depot Locations: Kids ages 5-12 build a load 'n go truck to take home! Participants also receive a free certificate of achievement, workshop apron, and a commemorative pin. Workshops are on the first Saturday of each month at all Home Depot locations. Race to Remember 5K at Dickey Stephens Park: Race to Remember gives families who’ve experienced infant loss the chance to join together in memory of their special children. All proceeds from the race will benefit Mamie’s Poppy Plates, which provides grieving parents with keepsake plates, customized with their baby’s footprints, name and birth information. Pre-party begins at 4 p.m., the balloon release at 5:15 p.m., and the race begins at 6 p.m. 4 p.m. June 6. Party Passes (for non-runners) are $10, children 5 and under are free. Super Sunday Free Family Fundays at Arkansas Arts Center: During this weekly event, families engage with the exhibit "30 Americans" through hands-on exploration of techniques used by the artists on display. This week, families will experiment with the assemblage process of sculpture by creating a Nick Cave inspired artwork based on his Soundsuits. Arkansas Author Round-Up at CALS Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library & Learning Center: Five Arkansas children's book authors will give attendees an opportunity to listen and interact with them about their books.
