4 Family Flicks at CALS Ron Robinson Theater
Pass the popcorn! The Central Arkansas Library System recently announced its winter and spring film series for the Ron Robinson Theater, located in downtown Little Rock. The series includes screenings for families, young adults and grown-ups, too. Plus, admission is just $5 per person! Here are some of the upcoming flicks that families will love.
James and the Giant Peach: This 1996 musical fantasy is based on the classic novel by Roald Dahl and rated PG. The film follows James, an orphan who befriends human-like bugs who live inside a giant peach. 2 p.m. Feb. 28.
Annie: This 1982 classic follows a plucky orphan who hasn't lost hope that she'll find a family; the musical features song favorites like "It's the Hard-Knock Life" and "Tomorrow." 7 p.m. March 12.
Fantastic Mr. Fox: Wes Anderson's stylish, stop-motion flick features an all-star cast (George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray) as the voices of a fox family, their wildlife neighbors and the unhappy farmers who plot to stop the animals from stealing their food. Rated PG. 2 p.m. March 28.
The Sandlot: In this 1993 coming-of-age film, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his team. Together, they fall into boyhood adventures involving rival teams, lifeguards and a vicious dog. Rated PG. 2 p.m. April 11.
For young adults and parents, here are a few more classic films you should add to your calendar:
Fight Club: An insomniac office worker looking for a way to change his life crosses paths with a devil-may-care soap maker. Together, they form an underground fight club that evolves into something much, much more. Rated R. 7 p.m. April 9.
Breakfast at Tiffany's: A young New York socialite played by Audrey Hepburn becomes interested in a young man who has moved into her apartment building in this 1961 dramedy. Rated G. 7 p.m. April 10.
Some Like It Hot: When two musicians (the comedic duo of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis) witness a mob hit, they disguise themselves as women and flee the state in an all-female band. Of course, everything gets truly complicated when they notice Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), the band's vocalist and ukelele player. Rated PG. 7 p.m. May 1.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off: John Hughes wrote and directed this 1986 hit about Ferris Bueller, a high school senior with a knack for ditching school, enraging the principal and seizing the day. Rated PG-13. 7 p.m. May 28.
