Super Science: 5 Educational Workshops in February
While scanning our February calendar, we found several regularly-scheduled science programs that are sure to interest your mini Curie or Pasteur. Check out these five programs in central Arkansas that range from Earth Sciences to Engineering!
Build it Lab Workshops at Museum of Discovery: In partnership with AGC Arkansas, Home Depot and University of Arkansas at Little Rock, this workshop series will engage youngsters in activities related to home-building: framing, waterproofing, plumbing, wiring, roofing, soundproofing and painting. Plus, visitors can watch as students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Construction Management program build a playhouse to be donated to a school. Each Saturday will focus on a different phase of construction: Wiring & Roofing (Feb. 7); Interior Finishing (Feb. 14); and Painting (Feb. 21). The workshops will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each Saturday through Feb. 21. Activities are included with regular museum admission: $10, children ages 1-12 $8, children under 1 free. Heifer Hour: Guatemala at Heifer Village: Explore Guatemala and make maracas to take home! Heifer Hour is the second Saturday of each month and features a craft, game, children’s book or outdoor activity to help teach kids about caring for the Earth and for other people. Homeschool Programs at Pinnacle Mountain State Park: Meet a park interpreter at the visitor center each Friday for a home school class based on life and physical sciences (grades 3-12). Lil' Wild Ones: Going on a Bear Hunt at Central Arkansas Nature Center: Discover bears through story, art and games. Lil’ Wild Ones is held on the second Saturday each month for hands-on, nature-related activities for children ages 4-8. 2 p.m. Feb. 14. For info: (501) 907-0636, CentralArkansasNatureCenter.com. Wiggle Worms at Museum of Discovery: A weekly workshop introduces science to children ages 6 and younger with a fun experiment. This month's classes: Germs (Feb. 3, 5 & 7); Heart Health (Feb. 10, 12 & 14); Hurricane! (Feb. 17, 19 & 21) and Food Discoveries sponsored by Whole Foods Market (Feb. 24, 26 & 28).
