Zoo Opens New Water Conservation Exhibit
From May 9 to Aug. 9, a fun maze at the Little Rock Zoo is letting visitors experience the journey a drop of water takes as it goes through the Lake Maumelle watershed.
"Water's Extreme Journey" is a 1,500-square-foot maze that has been showcased at places such as the New York Aquarium, the San Francisco Zoo and more.
Participants work through several educational stations to make it all the way to the ocean as a clean and healthy drop of water.
Visitors will learn about the water cycle and the variables along the way that can have a positive or negative effect on aquatic environments and water quality. It will show participants that even small changes around the home can have a big impact on our environment.
According to Jennifer Godwin at the Little Rock Zoo, there is also a giant mural that will be created with the help of visitors. Each person can color a card that goes on a grid of 660 spaces that will eventually transform into a scene of a watershed with the sky, mountains, and waterways.
Education staff from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Central Arkansas Water will be on site intermittently throughout the stay of the exhibit to present related educational activities.
Entry to the exhibit is free for zoo guests. Regular zoo admission is $12.95 for adults and $9.95 for kids 12 and under. The zoo is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily from March through September.
