1. Celebrate the Fourth of July. Don't miss Pops on the River at the Riverfest Amphitheater in Little Rock at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra accompanies this annual fireworks show held on the banks of the Arkansas River. Arrive early, because a free concert like this draws a crowd. Music includes traditional patriotic tunes as well as a few classical and Broadway numbers. Lawn chairs are welcome, but no pets please. Admission is free. 2. Feed your need for football. Catch great football action with the Arkansas Twisters at Alltel Arena. The Twisters play Laredo at 7 p.m. July 14 and Amarillo at 7 p.m. July 28. Don't miss the pre-game tailgate party in front of the arena from 4:40 - 6:30 p.m., featuring free hot dogs and sodas and entertainment by Radio Disney and Pump It Up. Tickets for the game are $10 - $38. For info: 975-KICK. 3. Cruise the river. Board the Arkansas Queen for a Family Night Dinner and Magic Cruise every Wednesday night in June, July and August. Adults dine on honey-baked ham and chicken a l'orange and children get a spaghetti supper. After dinner, adults can dance or listen to the jazz duo Riverboat Ramblers while a magician entertains the kids. Adult admission is $32.50 per person and includes the cruise, dinner, entertainment, dancing and magic. One child is free with each adult. Boarding begins at 6:30 p.m. For info: 372-5777. 4. Beat the heat. Escape the summer heat with a free movie at the Rave Motion Pictures Summer Series. All the digital features are free, but seating is limited, so arrive when doors open at 9:30 a.m. The movie will start at 10 a.m. Get a Movie Meal -- popcorn, drink and candy -- for $3. Shows: "Everyone's Hero," July 4-5; "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown," July 11-12; "Happy Feet," July 18-19; and "Open Season," July 25-26. All shows are rated PG. For info: 687-0499. 5. Discover the dinosaurs. Bring your little archaeologists and paleontologists to the Museum of Discovery on July 26-28 to learn more about these sciences, explore the dino dig, erect a dinosaur skeleton and much more. Admission is free for children under 1, $7 for kids 1-12, $8 for adults and $7 for seniors 65 and over. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. For info: 396-7050.
